Lecture at Stevenson University

I was asked to give a hypnosis demonstration for a psychology class at a local college. They wanted to learn how hypnosis can be used as an adjuct to psychotherapy. It was a really nice group, but one of the things I noticed was that all of the students were young women, except for one fellow. Did he know how lucky he was? You see, Stevenson University used to be known as Villa Julie College and was traditionally a girls college. It was a very nice group of people and during my demonstration I told the students about the three common misconceptions about hypnosis, namely:
-Loss of control
-Telling secrets
-Getting stuck in hypnosis
After that I invited the lone fellow in the class to come up for a demonstration of hypnotic anesthesia. I had him close his eyes and pretend that they wouldn't work. I then tried to make him feel pain, but of course, he felt nothing.

Then I did a few suggestibility tests for fun and chose one girl for a demo of the Dave Elman induction. She was an excellent subject and went VERY deep. I conditioned her for reinduction and triggered the reinduction several times during the lecture. In addition to being a great subject, she was a good sport so we had a lot of fun. I hope they'll invite me back soon. They gave me some very nice Stevenson University gear (I felt like 5-year-old leaving a birthday party with his goodie bag) :-)

I LOVE Ottawa!!!

Wow! I am still buzzing from my class in Ottawa! There were 13 students and we had a blast! The facilities were great and we got to do a lot of practice in instant and rapid inductions. Kenda McCaskill of hypnotic solutions organized the class and what a wonderful job she did! Kenda and her business parter Jason Gordon do comedy stage hypnosis. I will post some video of one of their shows soon. I wanted to do it now, but I can't find the clip :-( . coming soon!!!

New Hypnosis Mentorship Program

The Seattle class last month had 13 students and there are 12 people signed up for the Ottawa class on 18-19 October. But somehow my Baltimore class wound up with ONE student. I had already cleared my calendar and so I had no other plans. I considered cancelling the class, but decided to give my one student the option of cancelling or doing a one-on-one mentorship. She opted to go ahead with the mentorship. It was a blast! I did a two-day "mind dump" and taught her everything I know about instant and rapid inductions, and a lot of other hypnosis knowledge. Then I brought in people for her to practice on, including our waitress at the diner where we had lunch! I worked her hard! Sunday I took her out with some of my hypnotist friends so she could do instant hypnosis on strangers in downtown Annapolis! She dropped six people. What a great time!

I really enjoyed being able to mentor and coach one student at a time and so here is what I've decided to do. I am offering a weekend mentorship program. You get to spend two full days with me learning as much as your brain can absorb about instant and rapid inductions, hypnosis in general, whatever you want. This is your class. YOU pick the dates and YOU decide what will be taught. I have put together a rough outline of what I might teach, but since you will be the only student, YOU tell ME what you want to learn and I will teach it to you. This is not going to be cheap. The cost is $1900 and does not include your airfare or hotel, but the beauty of this is that you can learn much more in this class than the cost of your tuition. I have spent many years and tens of thousands of dollars to learn what I know. You have access to all that knowledge for less than 2K!

In addition to that, you will receive my Instant and Rapid Induction DVD (value $109.95)My Dave Elman Induction DVD (value $49.95), and a copy of my upcoming Street Hypnosis DVD Course (value $249.95). That's over $400.00 in bonuses!

As an added bonus, you also get three private mentoring calls with me to ensure your success!

Email me at sean@worldsfastesthypnotist.com to discuss options.

Annapolis Street Hypnosis Outing

Brian, Cliff, Ian and I were in Annapolis Sunday, doing street hypnosis. Brian and Ian did most of the inductions, (18 and 11 inductions respectively), with Cliff and me acting as camera crew. Still Cliff and I did some inductions just to keep up appearances. It was a good outing and we'll probably go out again in a couple of weeks to Alexandria or Fells Point. We used Brians cool new signs and they seemed to attract the crowd very well.

I just posted the latest edition of the Extreme Street Hypnosis Newsletter and included a new video which shows why the hand drop induction should always be done with the subject seated.

I'm just getting ready for my Instant and Rapid Induction class 18-19 October in Ottawa. Kendra McCaskill has been organizing it and I think it's going to be a blast!

We got an email from Sean this week. He's going to college in Vermont at Norwich University. Norwich is a military academy and Sean was asked to do a hypnosis show in a couple of weeks that may have up to 350 people in the audience. Way to go Sean!

Sleep! (less) in Seattle

Just arrived home after teaching instant and rapid inductions in Seattle, Washington. This was especially fun for me because I got to teach with Keith Livingston of hypnosis101.com. Keith is an outstanding NLP and hypnosis instructor and a really great guy. The weekend started out a little shaky when Keith sprained his ankle playing basketball the night before the class began. Keith is a true professional and "played hurt"! The students were lots of fun and it didn't take long before they were knocking one another down with hand drop and arm pull inductions. Sunday we went on a field trip to a local park and hypnotized some strangers who happend to be out picnicking in the beautiful weather. I'll be posting some video of the weekend as soon as the editing is done.

My next class will be in Ottawa, October 18-19. Kenda McCaskill of Hypnotic Solutions in Stittsville, Ontario is organizing the class. She can be reached at 613-852-7658

Now I'm planning an instant and rapid induction class in Orlando, Florida 21-22 March 2009. I am looking for advice on where to hold the class. My choices are one hotel that is about a mile from the airport, but 22 miles from Disney World, and another hotel very close to Disney World. If you have an opinion as to which location would be better for students, I'd love to hear from you.

Reader Question:
Hi Mr. Sean! I like your videos and i have a question:
Is it important to say loud "Sleep" or is it just more effective to shock someone?
I started to learn hypnosis recently. I hope this not was a stupid question :D
please reply thanks!:D Greeting from Hungary.

Sean's Answer:
This is a very good question. You need to do both. The shock sets the person up for the suggestion. You then have 1/2 second to give the suggestion of "Sleep!" or "Relax!" and this sends the person into hypnosis. As with all other inductions, it makes sense to follow this with deepeners to stabilize the trance. Good question!

Street Skits

Now here's something cute! I was doing street hypnosis and a little four-year-old boy was sitting on the end of the bench where I was working with a hypnotized subject. I transferred control to the little boy and had him do a reinduction. This video is really cute. Check it out!
Hear My Interview

Sean Spills His Guts
Nathan of KeysToTheMind interviewed me on 28 June. We talked about the mechanics of street hypnosis including how to find volunteers, how to spot scammers, how to choose the best subjects and of course we talked about safety. As usual, I did not hold back any information. One of the things I enjoy most about hypnotists is that they tend to share their knowledge freely. This is a wonderful thing and a tradition I strive to uphold. To hear this interview, click HERE.

Reader Question:
How do you deal with a "hypnotic hangover"?

Sean's Answer:
Sometimes a subject will emerge from hypnosis and complain of a headache, nausea, dizziness, or may feel that she's still in hypnosis. This will happen more often if you emerge the subject quickly. This is extremely easy to fix! All you do is rehypnotize her and then emerge her again SLOWLY. As you count her up, give her lots of suggestions for clear-headedness, energy and other good feelings. That's it!

Beware Short Skirts
I was in Ocean City, Maryland, last weekend, performing street hypnosis. It's summer, so many of the women were wearing short skirts. Now, while these can make your video very popular on Youtube (pretty girl = many views) they can also spoil your performance and here's why. I usually do stand-up inductions for the men, but with the women, I usually employ a seated hand drop induction. I need my subject to feel comfortable and secure, but if she is wearing a miniskirt, this may cause her to hold back a little. Imagine this. She is relaxing, letting go, and suddenly she thinks to herself, "Is my skirt riding up?" This will bring her out of trance. The solution? Ask one of the guys in the crowd to lend her his jacket so you can cover her legs and make her feel more comfortable. He'll be happy to do it and she'll feel much more relaxed and will go much deeper into trance.
Finger Magnets - Suggestibility or Trick?
A discussion has been going on on one of my favorite newsgroups, Nathan's KeysToTheMind, about the finger magnets test. Specifically whether or not it is a test of suggestibility or if it's just a trick. In fact, it is both, and here is how it works. Tell your subject to press her palms together and then interlock her fingers tightly, but to leave the index fingers sticking out, about an inch apart. Have her squeeze her hands tightly together, lock her elbows and look at you through the gap in her index fingers. Then ask her to imagine that there are powerful magnets in the tips of her index fingers and they are attracting one another. The attraction gets stronger and stronger! In just a few moments, her fingertips should touch. In fact, the only way your subject can keep the finger tips from touching is by actively keeping them apart. The reason for this is because with the hands firmly clasped the fingertips naturally come together. That is the "trick" part of this. If her fingertips do not touch, she is resisting you! So it's not so much of a suggestibility test as it is a test for resistance! "finger magnets" makes a nice demonstration, but it is especially useful to determine if your subject REALLY wants to be hypnotized. Here's a video that shows "finger magnets".
