How to Deal With Noises and Distractions in Hypnosis

Ask Sean

Q. How do you deal with sounds and other disturbances when you are hypnotizing a person? Won't these disturbances cause the subject to emerge from hypnosis?

A. Great question! First of all, I have wonderful news for you. Trance is not particularly fragile.

Often new hypnotists feel as though if they stop talking for just a couple of seconds, their subject will pop out of trance. While it is true that if you leave your subject on her own for an extended time, she will emerge herself from hypnosis, you don't have to worry about this happening very quickly.

Now, about distractions. You can keep your subjects from being distracted and popping out of trance by using what I call the "Distraction Filter."

Here is an explanation from a recent course I taught in Las Vegas.
